Sentinel News

Sentinel Nation:

We are now a little over two weeks into the 20-21 school year.  There are exciting things going on in the classrooms and on the athletic fields and it’s great to see it all rolling.  We appreciate everyone’s adherence to the mask wearing in school and extracurricular activities.  We encourage you all to follow health department guidelines outside of school so we can continue without any interruption to our school days and activities.

Here are a few items of information that we want to share:

  • An important reminder to our students - if you are feeling ill, please do not come to school.  For the past two weeks, we’ve had to quarantine some of our students because they’ve been exposed to someone that has tested positive.  This is not a fun thing but it is necessary.  We will follow the health department guidelines when it comes to COVID 19.  Students, if you have one of these symptoms -  cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, fever of 100.4 or higher, chills, new loss of taste or smell, PLEASE STAY HOME. Read the following link for more information and a list of more symptoms.

  • A reminder that breakfast is served each day from 7:00-7:30. Come enjoy a nutritious breakfast each morning before the start to the school day.  Thanks to a USDA free meal waiver, students will not be charged for either breakfast or lunch for the rest of the calendar year.

  • As students and parents figure out their after school routines, our parking lot seems to be emptying quicker each day after school.  We have made the back parking lot an exit only during the 2:00-3:00 hour in order to get our buses and students out in a timely manner.  If you are planning on picking up students or coming to the school during these hours, please enter at the front parking lot.

  • Courtesy shuttle bus for Mountain Ridge students.  There are three pickup locations for Mountain Ridge students that live across the corridor from the school.  If you are interested in riding the shuttle and want more information, click on this link.

  • Sophomore parking permits.  This year, we have enough space in our parking lots to allow sophomores to park.  We will be selling parking permits to sophomores beginning Tuesday, September 8.  Students that want a parking permit will need to bring in a current driver's license, proof of insurance, car registration, and fill out the contract signed by a parent. Click here for the contract.

  • School community council.  If you are interested in being a member of the school community council, please go to our website and fill out the request.  You can email the request to Asst. Principal Kevin Barton kevin.barton@jordandistrict.org or Principal Michael Kochevar michael.kochevar@jordandistrict.org by October 2nd.

  • Sterling Scholar applications are now available.  They will be accepted until September 25.  Here is a link to the application.

  • Enhanced diplomas - Sentinel Seniors, it's time to start thinking about earning an Enhanced Diploma and being awarded an honor cord at graduation. Application forms, along with information and requirements for each area of focus, can be found here. If you have questions or need more information, you can email Mrs. Robertson at shauna.robertson@jordandistrict.org or stop by room P2310.

  • School retake pictures will be on September 24 and October 28.  These will take place during the school day and students will be called out of class if they need a retake or haven’t got a picture taken yet.  These pictures will be in the yearbook so please follow district dress code guidelines.

  • Class fees have been entered - you may already have received a notification.  Please get on Skyward and pay for your students' class/course fees.

Thanks for a great start!  We have enjoyed interacting with all of you and appreciate the excitement that all have shown being back.  We’re all on the same team and together we are Sentinel Strong.
