TEACHER SPOTLIGHT: MRS. FIELDING BRINGS NATIONAL WWII MUSEUM ARTIFACTS TO MRHS

At Mountain Ridge High School, our educators are dedicated to creating high-impact, engaging learning environments. Recently, social studies teacher Mrs. Fielding brought history directly to her students through a specialized educational partnership with The National World War II Museum.

Examining Artifacts from the Pacific Theater

The National WWII Museum offers an outreach program that provides schools with curated artifact trunks, allowing students to conduct primary-source historical analysis. Mrs. Fielding’s class received a collection focused on the Pacific Theater, giving students the rare opportunity to handle, inspect, and analyze authentic historical objects.

The collection included:

  • Cartography & Currency: Historical operational maps and wartime money used throughout the Pacific campaign.

  • Uniforms & Tools: Preserved clothing items and practical field tools utilized during the war effort.

  • Trinitite Specimen: A rare piece of Trinitite—the glassy, mildly radioactive residue created on the desert floor by the heat of the 1945 Trinity atomic test in New Mexico.

The Value of Tactile Learning

Analyzing primary sources encourages students to think like historians. Rather than passively reading about historical events, students evaluate materials, ask analytical questions, and build a deeper understanding of the human experience during World War II.

Mountain Ridge High School extends its appreciation to Mrs. Fielding for bringing these exceptional learning opportunities to our campus!
