REAL ESTATE STUDENTS EXPLORE RESIDENTIAL DEVELOPMENT AT EDGEHOMES SITE

Mountain Ridge High School real estate students recently gained firsthand experience in community planning and residential development through a field trip to the EDGEhomes Mountain Ridge Development, led by Real Estate Professor Deven Osborne.

Experiencing Real Estate Beyond the Classroom

The field trip allowed students to walk directly from campus to the active residential development site, where they toured two single-family model homes and observed ongoing construction.

Rather than focusing solely on property sales, the visit emphasized the multi-faceted nature of the real estate and construction industries.

Key Learning Outcomes

During the site visit, students explored several core concepts of development and real estate management:

  • Development Planning: Understanding how large residential communities are master-planned and zoned.

  • The Building Process: Examining the sequential phases of residential home construction.

  • Industry Career Pathways: Learning about diverse roles in development, general contracting, project management, and real estate finance.

  • Construction Economics: Analyzing the costs associated with land development, labor, and materials.

  • Residential Asset Types: Evaluating various housing models and property classifications.

Building Real-World Understanding

Walking through an active development helped students connect classroom concepts to tangible community growth. Mountain Ridge High School extends its appreciation to Professor Deven Osborne and EDGEhomes for offering our students valuable exposure to career opportunities in real estate and construction.
